Nature Scavenger Hunt

Updated: Oct 26, 2020

Last week, my family and I took a trip to Bledsoe Creek State Park. It is located in Gallatin, TN. They have many campsites, walking trails, and other activities to do.

We love walking trails. Whenever there is a chance, my husband and I will take my daughter to a walking trail. We love walking out into nature and being in the wood. My daughter, Alexandrea loves picking up every stick she sees. She is our little adventurer with a lot of energy.

I usually try to bring my camera. I love taking nature photos. I can get some nice photo of my family. That is always a plus for me. Some of my best photos of my daughter are taken at a walking trail.

We decided to make this trip special. While on the trail, we decided to let the kids play a game. A scavenger hunt. We would ask them to find us stuff on the trail. It was a game for my nephew, Brandon. For Alexandrea, our goal was for it to be educational. We are in the process of teaching Pre-School from home. Lots of hands-on learning.

For this scavenger hunt, there were a lot of different things we asked them to find. I made this list of stuff on my own. Here is the list below.

Clouds

Triangle

Square

Stick

Leaf

Rocks

Water

Bird

Clouds

Trees

As they found the items, I would take pictures of them with the item. Sometimes, I would even find my own item and take a photo of it. This made our walk very fun. The kids had a blast doing this. They would around the wooded trail and find the items.

Side note: I was very proud of my girl. She is a very smart young gal. I am going to have a "Proud Momma Brag Session". She already knows her shapes. I have now had to add in harder shapes to keep her little brain moving. Hexagons, Pentagons, etc. She also knows all of her colors. I am one proud momma.

Toward the end of our journey, we stopped at the Wildlife Viewing Area by the pond. At this area, you can view lots of fish and birds. We had the chance to see a lot of turtles. I was able to get some really interested shots of the turtles. The kids also had fun looking at them all. This spot was a great place to just relax and enjoy nature.

Brandon has told me many times that when he gets older, he wants to be a photographer. Just like his Aunt Sissy. (Sissy is his nickname for me.) Anytime I have my camera out, he wants to try and take some photos as well. I always end up giving him a little lesson in photography. This time, he got a great photo of Reed (my husband) and I. I think he might have an eye for it. Don't you think?

Bledsoe Creek State Park is a great place to go and look at nature. There are many walking trails there. Great for bird watching. While there, the kids found three different ones. The Shoreline Trail is one of our favorites. You get to walk the trail right beside the water. Hence, the name. There is even a play ground right by the trail. The kids really enjoyed that. I highly recommend going there. It is also a great place to take photos at. There are many spots to pick. Lots of great backgrounds.

Here are some of the photos I took while here. They are a mix of photos from our scavenger hunt and just nature itself.
